Learning Journey at the eco-garden

Waiting at the entrance of Science Centre

Vegetable beds :

Sweet potato plant - The leaves can be made into delicious vegetable dishes. The roots can be used to make tonics and treat stomach, spleen and kidney problems. In Hawaii, the raw tuber is used to induce vomiting. Sweet potato is also reputed to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer.

Cotton plant

Kangkong - Also known as water spinach, this plant probably originated from India. It has white or pink flowers and arrow-shaped leaves with hollow stems. The young plant (leaves and shoots), when cooked with sambal chilli, is a popular dish in most restaurants. Kangkong is often fed to those suffering from certain types of anaemia because of its high iron content.

Fruit trees :

Chempedak

Durian tree

Rambutan tree

Healing plants :

Periwinkle - In Indochina, the leaves are used as a remedy for diarrhoea and malaria while in Philippines and Africa, the plant is used to treat diabetes. Today, it is used to treat cancer, Hodgkin's disease and leukaemia in children.

Vitex - The seeds of this plant are used to treat colds, headaches and migraines. The leaves can cure traumatic injuries, rheumatalgia and headaches. The dried fruit has a pepper-like aroma and flavour.

Economic crops :

Coconut tree

Citrus fruits :

It was very fun at the Ecogarden, I wish I can go again. My mother also wants to go again because she wants to pick the red beads.

I am thinking of going there again because I feel like checking out the dinosaur exhibit hall.

I was very excited when I saw a turtle out of the pond. I was thinking to catch it but it was too far away.

I asked my mother to delete pictures because I wanted her to collect all the information.

Wow! Looks like many of you enjoy the trip to the Eco-garden. It was too warm though. Otherwise, it would be even better. Glad to know many of you like nature.

Yukang, those red beads are saga seeds.

Guanyu, why didn't you find the trip interesting? Most of us including Nikki enjoyed ourselves. Where would you like to go?

Dear Miss Chua,
I enjoyed picking the saga seeds because it was lots of fun. Marcus said it was fun but he was so afraid of the ants on the ground and on the seeds. Ha ha !

Thank you Miss Chua for the food you prepared for us!
