Hello everyone! My name is Pristina Goh. My hobby is travelling overseas. My favourite magazine is the "Young Scientist". I like to eat ice-cream but it's unhealthy. Yippee!!!

Hi kids,

I wonder how many of you watched the Olympics last Friday when our Singapore table tennis players played against the Koreans and the finals last night. Last Friday, I was about to go out when I caught the match on TV. It was really interesting to watch. I was very delighted when I know that Singapore had won and assured of at least a silver medal.

On Sunday, I stayed home to watch the finals, knowing that China would win. True enough, before 9.30pm, it was confirmed that Singapore was on the losing end. I switched off the TV even before the match had ended. I was slightly disappointed but to know that Singapore had clinched a silver Olympic medal is victory for us. We had waited 48 years for this. So it's truly a historical moment for Singapore.

Vegetable beds :


Sweet potato plant - The leaves can be made into delicious vegetable dishes. The roots can be used to make tonics and treat stomach, spleen and kidney problems. In Hawaii, the raw tuber is used to induce vomiting. Sweet potato is also reputed to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer.






Cotton plant






Kangkong - Also known as water spinach, this plant probably originated from India. It has white or pink flowers and arrow-shaped leaves with hollow stems. The young plant (leaves and shoots), when cooked with sambal chilli, is a popular dish in most restaurants. Kangkong is often fed to those suffering from certain types of anaemia because of its high iron content.

Healing plants :


Periwinkle - In Indochina, the leaves are used as a remedy for diarrhoea and malaria while in Philippines and Africa, the plant is used to treat diabetes. Today, it is used to treat cancer, Hodgkin's disease and leukaemia in children.




Vitex - The seeds of this plant are used to treat colds, headaches and migraines. The leaves can cure traumatic injuries, rheumatalgia and headaches. The dried fruit has a pepper-like aroma and flavour.
